Berghain: Panorama Bar, sound and residents

The Berlin club in a former power station: its floors, the Halle and the Kantine, who plays, the sound system, and the hours and prices the official site lists.

A power station in Friedrichshain.

Most pages about the Berghain club repeat the same stories about the door. This one starts from the building, the rooms inside it and the nights the official site actually lists, and it marks every point where the club and the press disagree or say nothing.

The club is a former heating and power station. The Berliner Zentrum Industriekultur, a Berlin heritage body, dates the building to 1952 to 1955, in the neoclassical style of the East German blocks along Karl-Marx-Allee, and says the plant went off the grid in 1988. The conversion into a club ran until 2004. The Berlin monuments database lists the power station as part of a protected ensemble.

Berghain Berlin took over from an earlier club, Ostgut, near the same station. Crack dates Ostgut's first night to New Year's Day 1999 and says it closed in 2003. Berghain has been open in the old power station ever since, and the operator is Berghain OstGut GmbH, named in the official site's legal terms.

Inside, the Berliner Zentrum Industriekultur says the dance floor stands where generators and turbines used to run, under ceilings 18 metres high, and puts the capacity at up to 1,500 people. The architects' own project page describes a foyer dominated by a wall-sized installation by Piotr Nathan, made of 175 aluminium panels.

Berghain sits alongside 22 other rooms in the best clubs in Europe guide.

What is Panorama Bar?

Panorama Bar is the second floor, up steel stairs from the main room. The Berliner Zentrum Industriekultur says it occupies the former control room, and the architects' project page describes a raw room with a central bar lined in black rubber, two large photographs by Wolfgang Tillmans on its walls, and seating made from concrete pipes that weigh 1,462 kilograms each.

Musically Berghain Panorama Bar is the house floor. Groove, in an obituary for the club's booking agency in 2022, calls it an eclectic answer to the stricter main room and names its early residents: Tama Sumo, Boris, nd_baumecker and Nick Höppner, plus Prosumer, with a link to American house and disco history and to queer party traditions. For the music itself, see the house music guide.

Panorama Bar also runs on its own. The official programme for October 2026 lists Friday nights at 22:00: Hypersoft on 9 October, Sister on 16 October and Innervisions on 23 October, with the Innervisions advance tickets already sold out on 4 October. On Klubnacht weekends the same floor carries its own set of DJs beside the main room.

What is Halle am Berghain?

Halle am Berghain is the former boiler house, and the Berliner Zentrum Industriekultur says it now hosts concerts and exhibitions outside club nights. The official site lists it as its own programme, separate from the club.

In October 2026 the Halle shows A Shroud Woven of Solar Threads, an exhibition by Ala Roushan and Charles Stankievech about a prehistory of solar geoengineering through ancient Iranian sun worship. It runs from 2 to 18 October 2026, Thursdays to Sundays from 2 to 7 pm, and tickets are sold on site for 10 euros or 8 euros. The official page names Juliet Kothe and Nadim Samman as curators, in partnership with the Autotelic Foundation.

What is the Berghain Kantine?

The Berghain Kantine, officially Kantine am Berghain, is the venue's concert room. Its October 2026 programme is mostly live acts, with doors at 19:00 and the music starting at 20:00. Jasmine Myra plays on 8 October, Mykki Blanco on 11 October and Girls of the Internet on 15 October. Not every night follows the pattern: the programme lists This is Techno Jazz on 10 October with a start at 20:00 and no doors time, and Anthony Hüseyin on 17 October with a DJ warm-up and a party after the live set.

Prices differ from event to event and the official programme page does not show them in its list, so check the event page for the night you want. The main room takes concerts as well: Krallice and Rashad Becker play Berghain on 13 October, doors 19:00, 18 and over, with tickets sold through CTM at 30 euros.

Who plays Berghain?

The official site lists every night by floor. Here is the next Klubnacht as it stood on 4 October 2026, starting Saturday 10 October at 23:59.

FloorDJs and live acts listed
BerghainAnika Kunst, Ben Klock, Dax J, DJ Nobu, Elisa Batti, Fiedel, Grace Dahl
Panorama BarGene On Earth, Gonno, L.B. Dub Corp, Luigi Di Venere, Ogazón, Paquita Gordon, Zombies In Miami

The official site does not publish a list of resident DJs, so for the Berghain resident DJs this page relies on the press. A Berghain DJ here means someone the press or the programme names. Crack's 2017 interview calls Marcel Dettmann and Ben Klock resident DJs of Berghain and Panorama Bar. Groove's 2022 obituary adds Len Faki as a third main-room resident and says all three were mostly unknown when they were chosen.

To see what a Berghain lineup looks like in practice, I counted the Klubnacht listings in the official archive from 1 January to 3 October 2026. There were 41. Steffi, Virginia and nd_baumecker each appear on 6 of them. Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann and Tama Sumo each appear on 4, Boris on 2, and Len Faki and Honey Dijon on 1 each. Groove reported a Honey Dijon residency in Panorama Bar in 2022. These are counts of listed names, not an official resident list, and a name can be listed and then change.

What does Berghain sound like?

The main room is known for Berghain techno, and the two DJs who defined it are the two the press names most. Crack's interview has Dettmann and Klock recalling the old Ostgut as a place with high ceilings, similar to the Berlin clubs they went to in the nineties, and describing the opening of Berghain in 2004 as something the city had been waiting for. Groove argues that their choice gave the club a current definition of techno that connected Berlin's nineties history to the 2000s. For the genre itself, see the techno music guide.

The Berghain sound system is the other half of that reputation. Mixmag reported on 18 October 2023 that the main room's original Funktion-One Dance Stack, installed in 2005, had been replaced after 18 years, and that it had run around 40 hours a week. The maker says the new system is technologically superior and keeps its exact specification private. Mixmag also writes that there has never been a Funktion-One system in Panorama Bar, only DJ monitors. Groove, reporting the same news, says the Panorama Bar system was replaced in 2017. The two sources disagree, so this page does not describe what is in Panorama Bar.

To hear the DJs the press names, the sets below are by Ben Klock, Len Faki, Prosumer and Tama Sumo. They are titled Boiler Room Berlin, and I found no source saying they were recorded at Berghain, so they show how these DJs play, not what a night sounds like in the room.

The label that grew out of the club is Ostgut Ton, linked from the official site. Its dates differ by source: Crack says the label began in 2005 and released its first vinyl in 2006, while Groove dates the first release to 2003. Resident Advisor reported in 2010 that Ben Klock had mixed Berghain 04, the next release in the label's mix series, which also has a Panorama Bar side.

Berghain opening hours and tickets

The Berghain address is Am Wriezener Bahnhof, 10243 Berlin, at S-Ostbahnhof, and the official contact page marks the venue 18+. The post address in the legal terms is Rüdersdorfer Straße 70, the same building seen from the other side.

Berghain opening hours follow the programme, not a fixed daily time. Klubnacht starts at 23:59 on Saturday. The official home page on 4 October 2026 showed a running timetable for the weekend with slots at 23:59, 04:30, 08:30, 12:30, 16:30, 20:30 and 00:30 on the main floor, so the night runs through Sunday and into Monday. The site publishes no closing time, and this page does not give one.

Berghain tickets are sold per event. The programme pages list these prices for early October 2026.

The official site also lists free cold tap water in all restroom areas, an awareness page with harm reduction advice, and a lost property pickup on Wednesdays from 2 to 6 pm, requested by email to lost@ostgut.de.

Berghain dress code

The official site publishes no dress code. The legal terms, contact page and event pages do not mention one, and I found no first-party source that does. Anything specific you read elsewhere is a guess about how the door treats you, and the door is covered in the guide to the best clubs in Berlin.

The Berghain queue

The official site gives no queue times and makes no promise about entry. A photograph from December 2019 shows how it looks from the street, with barriers marking the line outside the entrance.

For how the door works and what people report about it, read the Berlin guide rather than a rumour. For a night with a fixed ticket, such as a concert in the main room or the Kantine, the ticket is what gets you in.

Berghain FAQ.

Berghain history: when did the club open?

The building was a power station from 1952 to 1955 and shut down in 1988. It has been a club since 2004, after a conversion that ran until then. Its predecessor Ostgut opened, according to Crack, on New Year's Day 1999 and closed in 2003. The Berghain history on the official site is thin, so the dates here come from the Berliner Zentrum Industriekultur, Crack and the architects' project page.

What is a Berghain party like?

The Berghain party the official site lists most often is Klubnacht, from 23:59 on Saturday, with the main room, Panorama Bar and Säule all running, and in the warm months the garden too. Panorama Bar also runs label nights on Fridays from 22:00 and Säule runs Thursday nights from 22:00. Entry is 18 and over.

Is there a Berghain garden?

Yes. The official programme lists Garten as a floor and shows its annual opening on Friday 1 May 2026 at 12:00, with Christian AB, Cinthie, Cormac and Ogazón. Garten appears on the programme in May, June and September 2026, and the official site gives no end date for the season. The garden opened on 1 May in 2025 as well.

What is the Berghain closing time?

The official site gives none. On 4 October 2026 its timetable showed the Klubnacht running from 23:59 on Saturday, with the last listed set on the main floor starting at 00:30 on Monday, so plan for a night that goes through Sunday.

Does the Berghain dress code matter?

The official site publishes no dress code, so this page cannot give one. See the dress code section above for what the sources do and do not say.
